She sat on her bed looking through the window, her view blurred by the storm outside. Thinking back to her childhood, overcome by emotion, as a familiar face shaped her way into her mind.
Memories came flooding back like a mudslide through a tiny town. The piercing sound of the hooter and the blinding sight of the bright headlights. Her littlest friend had no chance.
She blamed herself for not being more responsible, for not checking that the gate were closed. Staring out ahead, oblivious to the storm, her memories had her pinned down as she recalled the painful whimpers.
Fury arose within her as she recalled the driver’s only words as he drove away from the scene of the accident. “Fuck it!” He took a life and thought nothing of it.
That night so many years ago, she buried her furry 9 year old friend in her back garden where lavender plants started to grow soon after. Occupying a tiny space that became her sanctuary for tranquility, spiritual healing and connectivity.
Her mother always used to say, “Hannah, this lavender is your puppy reincarnated; she surrounds you with peace the minute you sit down beside her.”

Well done Chev. ✋
Celeste, I am so very grateful that, somehow, I can create these stories. Tandem blogging has really opened me up to my own ability. Woke up at 5 today with no clue, but the short story found me and I was able to publish before I left for work this morning. I’m glad you enjoying it as much I enjoy writing it. See you soon!!
