Today I celebrate your birthday with a tad bit of sadness. Why? Because our main man is not here, legendary Pa – the one who would always wake-up at the crack of dawn to wish you many-many more years of happiness!
Kai, these last two months have not been easy by any measure, yet you continue to smile and radiate happiness. No wonder I call you my happy-place – you just have this unique ability to light me up from the inside out, even when you’re having a wonky day and need to hide out in the cupboard or have me spin you around and swing you up-side-down.
You asked me last night, how do people fall asleep the night before their birthday, what happens or changes just before you turn another year older. Nothing much, other than celebrating another year of sharing your amazing life, and the gratitude for the precious gift that is you.
So, without further blah-blah-blah-blah-blah, I publish this post so that you always have this tiny little corner of my heart on the internet, a place where my words are always expressed with love and gratitude for you, my precious child. Know that I love you to the moon and back and all around the stars to infinity and beyond, to the depths of the deepest ocean and the peaks of the highest mountains.
