July Featured Blog

Live, Love, Laugh is woven in Jessica Viljoen’s words, her pictures and “A word for Each Year”.

I’ve been partnered with Jessica as part of the South African Mom Blogs Facebook group campaign, “Feature A Mom Blogger” that I’m participating in. She is a mom of two and a wife of one.

Jessica and her family.

Her post, “Why two kids are enough for me”, made me think of all the many motivations my son has given me to “just get” another child, and how my answers to him is just not good enough! She also shares her daughter, Mia’s birth story, “feeling some pressure going on down there, and I let go with a “ag nee, F@k dit!” – they all laughed and said, come on, just a few more to go…

But let me not give away too much, you  need to check her blog if you want to be inspired to live, love and laugh.

I also asked Jessica some questions, and here’s her answers. Enjoy.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I’ve been married to my soul mate for almost 8 years, and we have two beautiful daughters. Mia is nearly 5, and Ella is 1. I met my hubby when we were both students in Potchefstroom, and now we live in Centurion.

I’m a skincare therapist and run my own beauty salon from home – suits me so well to have flexible time, and I really enjoy what I do.

I enjoy spending time with my family, I love chocolate and wine, and I love celebrating life and all the little moments!

What inspires your writing?

I’ve always enjoyed writing, ever since I was in primary school, I always kept a diary.  I started blogging when I fell pregnant with Mia, as a way to record everything that happens, and, although definitely not blogging as much as I would like to, I really enjoy it – and already love looking back to previous posts and see what we were up to.

What are you reading right now?

Ah I wish I was reading something right now… My kindle’s battery has run flat again.  On my list to read though, is Marian Keyes’ new book, The Woman Who Stole My Life.

What are the non-essential items in your handbag right now?

Currently don’t use a handbag, only a nappy bag…  And I think my idea of what’s in there is essential but probably counts as non-essential, such as colouring books and crayons, baby biscuits and snacks and teething toys!

Do you enjoy horror movies, why/why not?

Nope, not at all.  I don’t like feeling frightened!

Have you ever flipped your lid in public (lost your cool), what triggered it and what was the outcome?

My initial response to this question was thinking that no, I’m generally quite a calm person.  But then I remembered just the other day in Makro when I wanted to walk out of the shop to fetch a trolley, and the security lady stopped me and told me I have to walk around to the exit past the tills, meanwhile the trolleys were literally 2 metres away from this door which was “only an entrance”. I didn’t lose my cool as such, but I did tell her to stop being ridiculous and marched right past her to fetch my trolley!

On quote your blog home page “I have more ideas than time”, please share one such idea that you would like to have time for and why?

Just off the top of my head, I wish I had more time to do arts and crafts type activities – for myself, not kiddie ones!   A while ago I bought a candle-making kit – haven’t made any candles yet. I bought jars and goodies to make little DIY pedicure gift jars, but haven’t put them together yet.

Ella is 14 months old already and I haven’t started on her First Year photo album.  I hate a cluttered house but I just don’t have enough time to get everything tidy!

And then, more ideas can be seen on my Pinterest boards: Arts and Crafts – and Bucket List.

When was the last time you slept until 11 am on a Saturday (being sick does not count)?

Gosh, now I can’t remember. Maybe when I was a student last?

If you could be a superhero, who would you be and why?

Ah I’d love to be Buffy the Vampire Slayer!  She’s gorgeous, strong and independent!

What was/is your favourite fairytale and why?

I love all fairytales that end with “and they lived happily ever after!”

If you had one message to share with your neighbourhood pets, what would thatmessage be?

I don’t so much have a message for the pets themselves, more so for the owners of the pets – to please take their doggies for walks, they can’t possibly be enclosed in these small yards 24/7!

Jessica, I look forward to reading many more of your blogs! Thanks for answering these questions 🙂
